Shetland (Face)Book Group

Death on a Shetland Isle book cover NEW for Book Week Scotland 2019 - a group that meets both online and offline to talk about a Shetland novel. We meet on 21 November 2019 at 6pm in the Library, and on our Facebook page.

Join us in the Library or on Facebook to discuss Marsali Taylor’s ‘Death on a Shetland Isle’.

For Book Week Scotland 2019 we present a special Shetland online/offline book club. This is a club with a difference because we will meet here in Shetland Library and also on Facebook. That means people who can’t make it to the Library - wherever in the world they are - can join in.

How it works:

Local library members can sign up at the Library desk and come along on the night. You can borrow a copy of the book from the library, either paper or eBook.

On Facebook, anyone can join in by commenting on our Facebook page during the meeting. But for a chance to get a free copy of the book, donated by publisher Allison and Busby, please go to the Facebook event listing before 30 September, and leave a comment saying why you want to take part. You should be available to be online during the group meeting. On Monday, 30 September, we will pick ten Facebook book club members to post a free book to.

Author Marsali Taylor will introduce her book at the start of the meeting and then we just speak about it! The on-site group and Facebook discussion may veer off in totally different directions, but that’s ok! We will try to post a flavour of what the on-site group thinks, and in turn let them know what their Facebook fellow-bookclubbers are saying.

This is the first time we've tried this, so thank you for joining the experiment! We want to promote books about Shetland beyond our own shores, hear what readers think and bring folk together to enjoy them.
